Newsletter update from Gyles 06.01.2023

It was lovely to see the children back on Wednesday. All the staff commented on how well they settled back in after the break. Over the Christmas period we had our basketball area completed. I would like to thank the Friends for organising this and those parents,  who gave up their time to dig out the area and lay the concrete.

This term there are a few timetable changes, with PE on a Monday and Wednesday and Year 5 swimming on a Monday afternoon too. Year 5 are welcome to wear PE on Monday,  if that is easier to get changed out of at swimming.

There are already a few events in the diary, including Luke Temple author visit on the 18th January, Young Voices for some children on the 19th January.

Sport For Champions UK 8th February

On the 8th February we have Pierre Henry Fontaine visiting school in the afternoon, to speak to the children about how he got into his sport and hopefully help inspire the next generation of athletes to follow their dreams. Pierre is an ex-basketball player, who will lead the children in a sponsored activity and then present an assembly about their career. With our new basketball area completed, it is a good opportunity to officially open it and Pierre will be able to demonstrate his skills.

I spoke to the children today about the visit and the sponsored activity, which Pierre will lead on the day Each child should have brought home a sponsor form today. On the back is more information about the visit and activity. The funds raised by the children are split between the school and Sport for Champions UK, who help fund athletes’ living and training costs. The money the school receives will be used to provide and maintain equipment for the basketball area. If you can, please help your child collect some sponsorship and I will write and inform you when the money needs collecting and sending into school. Thank you for your support.
